AP Grama Volunteer Latest News
Unclear Future for Volunteer Services
In Andhra Pradesh, the continuation of Grama (village) volunteer services remains uncertain. Though the new government has been in power for five months, there has been no clear direction on the future of these services.
Election Promises Remain Unfulfilled
During the elections, leaders of the ruling coalition promised that once in power, they would provide a monthly salary of Rs. 10,000 to volunteers. However, in the past five months, volunteers have not received any salaries, and their services have not been utilized as promised.
Budget Allocations Update
In the recent budget, the government has allocated funds for volunteers, but these allocations are said to be the same as previously proposed. Around Rs. 194.69 crores have been allocated for Grama volunteers, and Rs. 82.51 crores for Ward volunteers, which reportedly only cover outstanding payments.
Volunteer Protests
Volunteers have been protesting, demanding that their services be reinstated. Recently, some volunteer services were used during the Vijayawada floods, but no further duties have been assigned to them. Although there was a discussion on the future of volunteers in the recent cabinet meeting, no final decision has been made.
Future Possibilities
Currently, the government is implementing various schemes through Secretariat staff. Only after this process is complete might there be a decision on the necessity of volunteer services. It is unlikely that volunteers will be reinstated in their duties until at least March.
Awaiting Clarity on Volunteer Future
Volunteers are awaiting a clear announcement from the government regarding their future.
